According to "Churchmans of Kentucky" by Charles R. Churchman written in 1988, "Eva worked at Selman's, an exclusive ladies apparel store, for nineteen years. later she worked for a neighborhood grocer, Crouch's Market, in Okolona. This was before large stores such as Kroger's came to the area, and in the rural stores beans, sugar, flour, etc were weighed by hand. She has lived on Lipps Lane forty years.
Brooks was a plywood-making lathe operator for Wood Mosaic during World War II. Plywood was a critical war material, since it was used instead of scarce steel in airplanes. Only certain woods could be used, and it took an experienced operator to know how long to soak a log and also drying temperatures and times. Brooks was called for the draft, but Wood Mosaic got him a deferment since he was so valuable. Brooks was a victim of Parkinson's Disease, and was ill about fifteen years before dying of a blood
infection during the terrible winter of 1976-77."
