Mary Elizabeth's nickname was Lizzie. After James McFarland (Lizzie's second husband) died, Lizzie and her son, George, moved in with her mother, Elizabeth Wemes. Elizabeth lived on Market Street between 4th and 5th in Louisville, Kentucky.
Eva Arnold is Lizzie's niece and Elizabeth's grand-daughter. According to Eva Arnold, she described her grandmother's apartment as on the second floor and it had a big bay window facing Market Street. She loved visiting her aunt and grandmother. She said the big bay window "was a wonderful place for watching the parades that always came up Market Street and we could have the best view of the parade."
Lizzie's first husband, Squire, moved to Ohio after their divorce and worked in packing houses. He was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the National Turnpike.
