John worked for the railroad. He was also interested in genealogy. In a letter that Laura E. Speer Churchman wrote to Clyde L. Churchman on April 2, 1955, she said, "..if he ever heard of any kinfolks, he usually went to visit them and would find out all he could about them." According to Laura E. Churchman, John and Pearl lived in Newport, Arkansas, but on the back of their picture, someone wrote that they lived in Hope, Arkansas.
