She was a teacher for 35 years -- 16 years in Missouri and 19 years in Oregon. When she moved to Coquille, Oregon, to be closer to her children, she began teaching in the Coquille School District 8. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers Society and also of Retired Educators Association. She retired just a few short years before her death. She died of cancer.
