• Notes: After Abigail's parents died, she lived with her Aunt and Uncle George Washington "Wash" Sherrill. While she was attending Lone Star School, she slipped off (carrying her shoes), met, and married Alex Gibson. The story has been passed down that the Sherrills grouped together and hunted for the eloped lovers because Abigail was just 13 and Alex was 22. They thought he had slipped in and stolen her. The Churchman and the Sherrill families never would have anything to do with the Gibsons after that. This story was told to Andy Gibson by Tillman Churchman.
