- Notes:
Paulina went by the name of Pliney. It is told that Pliney was a little skinny woman who always wore a sunbonnet and a black dress. No one ever left her house without a gift of some kind, even if it was just a clipping out of the newspaper.
Visiting children were allowed to reach into her apron pocket for their gifts, which may be a hair ribbon, candy, small toy, etc. She always took a mid-morning snack to her husband when he was working in the fields.
This is another example of brothers marrying sisters: Cyrus and Paulina Churchman, brother and sister, married Abigail and Charles Smoot, sister and brother.
