Edward joined the East Tennessee Militia in September 23, 1813. His term of service was three months. Edward was discharged on December 23, 1813. Edward served as a Private under Captain Joseph Calloway in the Mounted Infantry Company of Col. Sammuel Wear's Regiment during the War of 1812. For this service he was paid eight dollars per month and an allowance for the use of his horse was forty cents per day.
