• Notes: According to A Quaker Missionary, "John was a studious youth, utilizing to the utmost the few opportunities for obtaining an education, and at an early age manifested a deeply religious turn of mind. He became a famous minister and missionary of the Society of Friends, travelling throughout the American colonies and in Europe, 1731-57."
  
  According to William H. Churchman, John entered the ministry in 1733, and traveled to visit Quaker meetings in New England in 1742; in New York in 1732, and again in 1744; in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and Holland in 1750-4. John's brother-in-law, Rev. William Brown -- husband of Susanna Churchman, accompanied him on his religious tour to Great Britain in 1750-4. In 1775 he visited the Eastern shore of Maryland on a ministerial tour. His Journal was printed after his death in 1979. He wrote a book of sermons that were so relevant to the Quakers that it is still in print today. To learn more about John Churchman, please click here.
  
  John's wife, Margaret Brown, was the daughter of William and Ester Brown (see Notes for John Churchman). An account of his life and experience was published in London, 1780, - collection of Quaker memorials.
