After high school, she attended Riverside Community College and graduated from the University of California Riverside in 1984.

  Melanie met Craig Considine and they were married on December 18, 1983. After graduation Melanie worked for Southern California Edison as a customer service representative. Craig and Melanie have three children -- a son, Brent, a daughter, Michelle, and a son, Chad. With the impending birth of their third child, Chad, Melanie resigned from Edison and became a full-time homemaker.
